FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern volleyball team and head coach
Jennifer King have announced the 2017 spring exhibition schedule – a slate that features local foe No. 6 Palm Beach Atlantic and a change of venue in a beach volleyball tournament.
"Spring gives us such a great opportunity to work one on one with our athletes, but our team is chomping at the bit to compete too," expressed King. "They work so hard during the first half of spring that these competitions after spring break are the payout and a chance to see what our future lineups might looks like."
The Sharks will kick off spring play at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. in a tournament hosted by the Owls on Mar. 24. A week later, NSU will travel up to Palm Beach Atlantic to take on Barry and the No. 6 Sailfish. PBA, a Sunshine State Conference provisional member in 2016, fell in the semifinals of the NCAA National Tournament in 2016, finishing with an overall record of 32-4.
On April 9, NSU will head to the west coast to take part in the Fiesta at Siesta, a beach volleyball tournament hosted on Siesta Key. "This is the third spring we will be participating in a beach event, and it's definitely a highlight of the semester," King explained. "Fiesta at Siesta is a first class event and beach gives the team opportunities to be multidimensional in their skill sets, something they don't get all the time indoor."
Finally, the Sharks will host a quad match, welcoming three different teams from around South Florida on April 22. Lynn, Keiser and an adult club team will enter the Noel P. Brown Sports Center at University School to finalize NSU's spring schedule.
2016 team captain,
Kaelyn Brock, is ready for her final spring season as a Shark. "Champions are made in the spring! We are reminded of this everyday by our strength coach. I love spring because this is where, both individually and as a team, we see the most improvements. This is the time for growth and development. The first half of spring is very challenging but it inspires us to find our personal bests and teaches us to push past any limitations. When it comes to competition, spring tournaments are so exciting because we get to put together all that we have developed and utilize all the skills we have been training. Also, we get to compete against teams we don't normally get to see in conference. By doing so, we are able to see where we stand against teams on a nation-wide scale."
