FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University rower
Hannah DiLorenzo is encouraging rowing for a cure by hosting the "Every Meter Matters" event on Sunday, Mar. 19 to raise cancer awareness and collect donations to benefit the Curing Kids Cancer organization.
The event, being held at the Alvin Sherman Library quad from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 19, will have music, food giveaways and more. The NSU rowing team will also be onsite for a meet-and-greet as well as to teach attendees how to row. Individuals will also have the opportunity to race against the team or their friends and family.
Every Meter Matters was started by current senior coxswain DiLorenzo in 2015. Hannah's father was diagnosed with advanced stage four lymphoma in early 2014. She has experienced firsthand the emotional and financial hardships of what a chemotherapy patient and their family faces.
"I hoped to create something unique to NSU that could really help families in situations like mine, and would continue to grow after I graduate," said DiLorenzo. "I wanted my team to be responsible for something larger than our competition and really show what Nova Southeastern University Rowing is all about."
The second annual Every Meter Matters is highly anticipated and continuing to grow throughout NSU and the community. This year, NSU Rowing has chosen Curing Kids Cancer as their organization of donation.
"Curing Kids Cancer stood out to me because their funding is strategically planned to bring together medical knowledge, technology and genetics to discover and fund areas of rapidly developing research, ensuring treatments can be utilized as fast as possible for children," explained DiLorenzo.
