FORT LAUDERDALE – Nova Southeastern University women's golfer
Michelle Ruiz was named the Sunshine State Conference Women's Golfer of the Week for the week ending March 19, 2017 as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Ruiz picks up her first Sunshine State Conference award after leading the women's golf team to a win at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational last week. The Sharks successfully defended their tournament title from a year ago beating the 14-team field by 17 strokes. It was also the first win for the team this season.
As an individual, Ruiz captured her first-ever individual medalist honor winning the tournament with a three-round 218 (+2). She shot 72 (E) in the first round, a 70 (-2) in the second, then closed out in the final round at 76 (+4) two win medalist honors.
The Sharks will return to action March 27-28 when they travel to Miami Lakes to compete in the annual Buccaneer Invitational hosted at Don Shula's Resort. Last season the Sharks finished fifth out of 12 teams at the tournament and have historically performed well finishing second in 2015 and won it in 2014.
