NSU Female Student-Athletes Participate in "Empower the Girls"

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Several female student-athletes of Nova Southeastern University recently took part in an Empower the Girls workshop, where they learned about personal safety and self-defense training.

The three-hour, fast-paced workshop taught the 39 attendees how to navigate their world with confidence through prevention education, practical personal safety skills to raise awareness and avoid dangerous situations and physical skills for self-defense.

The workshop was sponsored by Mass Mutual, who spoke with NSU's student-athletes at the beginning of the workshop regarding future opportunities, including internships and jobs.

In a survey taken after the workshop, the girls rated it overall a 9.6 out of 10 and 100 percent of them said they feel more confident and empowered and would recommend it to others.
