FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University women's track and field thrower,
Kamaria Johnson received her first-ever Peach Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week award, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
"KJ deserves this award for all of her hard work," head coach
Bryan Hagopian said. "She is constantly working hard in practice and she never skips the weight room. KJ has become one of the top throwers in the conference and I know she won't stop there, she is striving to be one of the best in the nation."
Johnson wins her first PBC weekly accolade after scoring a team-high 20 points with two first-place finishes at the Florida Division II Collegiate Invitational. The Little Rock, Ark. native started with a win in the hammer throw. Her mark of 44.89m not only broke her own school record, but ranks as the farthest throw in the conference this season. The sophomore then claimed first place in the shotput by tossing the eight pound ball 12.34m. Johnson still sits atop the PBC standings in the shotput as well.
The Sharks will return to the track with a split weekend. Some of the team will compete at the Pepsi Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. from Thursday Mar. 30 to Apr. 1. The rest of the team, meanwhile, will compete at the South Florida University Invitational on Saturday in Miramar, Fla.
