MELBOURNE, Fla. – A total of 21 student-athletes earned 2017 Sunshine State Conference golf All-Conference honors announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Among the 21 selected, the Nova Southeastern University men's and women's golf teams earned two honors with senior
Richard Mansell earning his third straight, while junior
Michelle Ruiz picks up her first all-conference award.
Ruiz was among the 10 women selected as an All-SSC honoree, earning a spot on the Second Team. Throughout the 2016-17 season, Ruiz has led the team with a 75.15 stroke average. She finished tied for third at the Sunshine State Conference tournament leading the team to their fifth conference title since 2008 and earning a spot on the SSC All-Tournament team. She also led the team to two other tournament wins during the regular season and earned individual medalist honors at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in March.
On the men's side, Mansell picked up his third straight All-SSC honor earning a spot on the First Team. He was a 2016 All-SSC Honorable Mention and a 2015 First Team All-SSC selection. Mansell has been one of the more consistent performers on the links this year for the men's team leading the team with a 71.27 stroke average. The senior posted seven top-five finishes in 2016-17 which included individual medalist honors at the Armstrong Pirate Men's Invitational in February. Perhaps his biggest honor, aside for earning SSC Player of the Week honors three times this season, was being selected to represent Team Europe in the 2017 Arnold Palmer Cup that is schedule for this upcoming summer in Atlanta.
Both the men's and women's teams are completing the final round of their respective NCAA regional tournaments on Wednesday. A complete list of the 21 All-SSC honors including SSC Players of the Year, SSC Freshmen of the Year and SSC Coaches of the Year is detailed below.
