FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Following a dominant effort out of the bullpen in Sunday's series-clinching victory over Florida Tech, right-hander
Ronny Orta has been tabbed the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
On Senior Day, it was the junior that rose to the occasion in game two of the three-game set after entering in the fourth inning for starter
Jonny Ortiz. Orta tossed a season-high 5.2 innings, allowing just one hit to go along with a pair of strikeouts in his second 'W' on the year. The Venezuela native walked the first batter he faced on four straight pitches. From there on, though, he would surrender only three more base runners the rest of the way, limiting the opposing hitters to a .059 batting average. Orta's lone hit given up in the win came in the sixth, but even then, he managed to induce a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.
Orta's honor marks the second consecutive SSC Pitcher of the Week recognition for the Sharks after teammate
Derik Beauprez earned the award last Monday.
NSU will look to complete the series sweep of Florida Tech when it wraps up its regular season Monday night at 6 p.m. ET. For complete coverage the action, log onto
