FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University women's tennis head coach, Doug Neagle, announced the fourth signee for the 2017-18 season in Kansas State transfer, Ana Garcia Navas, who committed to the Sharks on Tuesday afternoon.
"I'm excited to say that Ana is a Shark," Neagle said. "She's a great player and had a solid freshman season at Kansas State. She plays with intensity, hits the ball well and has mental toughness. Ana played at No. 1 and 2 in singles and doubles, which is challenging for a freshman at the Division I level. She is up for any challenge and won't let anyone stand in her way."
Navas comes to the Sharks after playing two seasons for Kansas State. The Valencia, Spain native finished the 2016-17 season with a 17-11 record at No. 3 and 4 singles while recording a 16-13 record in No. 1 and 2 doubles. In the 2015-16 campaign, Navas posted a 15-15 record at No. 1 and 2 singles along with a 13-15 record in No. 1 and 2 doubles. Overall, Navas currently holds a career singles record of 49-37 with a 46-41 doubles record.
During her freshman season, Navas was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall of 2015 and Big 12 Academic All-Rookie Team, as well as ITA Scholar Athlete in the following spring of 2016. In high School, Navas was ranked No. 48 with a No. 38 tab in the Spanish National Poll.
