FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Head coach
LeAnn Freeland-Curry and the Nova Southeastern women's basketball team continues to build its 2017-18 squad with the addition of 5-8 guard MiKayla Thompson. Thompson, a junior transfer from Southeastern Illinois College, will be the eighth signee for the upcoming season, joining former teammate
Bree Matthews.
"Mikayla is a versatile team player who fills up the stat sheet in every category," boasted Freeland-Curry. "Offensively, she can knock down 3's, get to the rim and create shots for her teammates. Defensively, she can guard any position and makes a lot of plays off the ball."
As a sophomore at SIC, Thompson helped lead her team to an overall record of 26-6, starting all 32 games and posting a 10.3 points per game. She also recorded 8.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game. From the field, she connected 53 percent of the time, and was a solid 78 percent from the line.
"Our staff appreciates her assist to turnover ratio (2.8 to 1) and her knack for rebounding on both ends of the floor," explained Freeland-Curry. "MiKayla excels not only on the court, but also in the classroom, and was awarded the Mary Jo Oldham Female Student-Athlete Award for being the top-academic performer at SIC in 2016-2017 while playing both basketball and softball. Our players and coaching staff are excited to announce MiKayla Thompson is a Shark."
