FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – Second-year head coach
Heather Wall and the Nova Southeastern women's golf program have announced the full 2017-18 women's golf schedule, set to begin at the Division II Preview in Houston, Texas from September 24-26.
"I am very excited for this upcoming season," Wall said. "We will be led by our three returning seniors, along with two returning juniors, and two new freshman. I look for the team to be very competitive and ready to go. Winning the Sunshine State Conference last year was great, but we still have a bitter taste in our mouth after missing out on nationals by one stroke. We are all eager to get back on the course and start competing again."
The Sharks are coming off a stellar season which saw three first-place finishes, including the SSC Championship, before falling to Lee in a two-hole team playoff in the Super Regional. This year, Nova Southeastern returns five of its six players from the 2016-17 squad, most notably WGCA Second-Team All-American
Michelle Ruiz along with seniors
Jamie Freedman and
Janelle Johnson.
Following the Division II Preview, the Sharks continue the fall season by hosting the GolfRank Invitational at PGA National from October 9-10. Last season, Ruiz and
Sophie Madden both earned spots in the Top-10 to lead the Sharks to a second-place finish. Five days after the tournament, the Sharks will travel to Lake Jovita to compete in the Saint Leo Invite, hosted by the Lions. The fall season will then wrap up at the South Regional Preview in Memphis, Tennessee from October 29-31.
Wall and company will open the 2018 spring championship season on February 4-5 at the World Golf Invitational, hosted by Flagler in St. Augustine, Florida. Just two weeks later, the Sharks will compete in the Lady Moc Classic, put on by 2017 NCAA Division II National Champion Florida Southern in Lakeland.
To begin the month of March, the Sharks will look to defend their back-to-back titles at Rollins' Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational in Windermere, Florida from March 5-6. Ruiz claimed the individual championship a year ago, while Madden and
Aldana Foigel finished among the Top-10 to propel the Sharks to comfortable 17-stroke victory over Montevallo.
After a three-week layoff, the Nova Southeastern will resume competition at the Barry Women's Invitational in Miami Shores from March 26-27. From April 8-10, Nova Southeastern will then look to conclude the regular season on a high note at Florida Tech's Lady Panther Invitational. Last season, the Sharks claimed the team championship thanks to four individual Top-10 finishes.
Less than a week later, NSU will hope to repeat as SSC Champions when the conference tourney gets underway from Boca Raton, Florida on April 15.
NCAA Super Regionals have been set for May 6-9 in Memphis, Tennessee, where NSU will seek redemption in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the third time in the past four years.
