Hewitt Welcomes Daniel Murphy to NSU Swimming Coaching Staff

Murphy spent previous two seasons as volunteer assistant at Missouri State

FORT LAUDERDALE – Nova Southeastern University men's and women's swimming head coach Ben Hewitt announced Daniel Murphy as his new assistant on Thursday.

"I'm delighted to have Danny join our NSU swimming family," Hewitt said. "He emerged from a very competitive search as someone who has a tremendous work ethic, a track record of developing and working with young athletes, and a high level of experience having worked with the team at Missouri State. His references spoke of his trustworthiness, dependability and skill as a coach. Danny will bring a great deal of experience, both as an on deck coach who was instrumental in the success of two programs, and as a student-athlete at Missouri S&T where he was an All-American."

Murphy joins the staff after spending two seasons as a volunteer assistant swim coach at Missouri State University, where he helped develop multiple conference record holders on both the men's and women's teams, as well as two NCAA qualifiers.

"I would like to thank the NSU Athletic Department, Director of Athletics Michael Mominey, Kelley Kish, and head coach Ben Hewitt for this amazing opportunity," Murphy said. "I am excited to work with this great group of student-athletes and to continue the tradition of excellence that has been established here at NSU."

Prior to his stint at Missouri State, Murphy was also the volunteer assistant coach for two years at his alma mater, Missouri University of Science and Technology. While at MS&T he primarily coached the Distance and IM groups. As a coach, Murphy has been a part of 11 school records and has seen seven swimmers achieve Division II All-American status. During the offseason, Murphy was also the head coach of the Missouri State Aquatics and Rolla Fins club swim teams.

As a swimmer from 2007-2011 at MS&T, Murphy was a five-time Division II All-American. While swimming for the Miners, Murphy competed in the 500, 1000 and 1650 Freestyle races along with the 400 Individual Medley. In his first two seasons, Murphy broke school records in the 400 IM and 500 Free. He graduated from MS&T with a bachelor's in mechanical engineering.
