NSU’s Furlongue and Cousins Selected to Division II National Committee

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Nova Southeastern University compliance coordinator, Marlon Furlongue and cross country and track and field assistant coach, Jessica Cousins, have been appointed to the NCAA Division II National Committee.

Furlongue was named Chair of the Division II women's rowing committee after serving two years as a member and will hold this position until 2019. Cousins, meanwhile, was appointed to the Division II men's and women's cross country committee. This academic year will the first of four terms for Cousins.

"It is always a great honor and recognition for our coaches and administrators to be selected for leadership positions with NCAA Division II," said Associate Director of Athletics, Kelley Kish. "We are excited to have Jessica and Marlon serve within the DII governance structure and directly impact men's and women's cross country and women's rowing on a national level and their championships. Special congratulations to Marlon for being selected by his peers to chair an NCAA committee. The experience and knowledge they will both gain during this service will directly contribute to their personal success and impact at NSU and beyond."

Furlongue enters his third year as a member of the NCAA Division II Rowing Committee, representing the South Region. He succeeds current chair Brian Lang, Associate AD at Assumption College. The Rowing National Championship is unique in that all three divisions are there competing for their respective national championships on the same weekend.

"I would like to thank Mike and Kelley for providing me the opportunity to serve on a national committee," expounded Furlongue. "Rowing is such a great sport and it is an honor to be named the chair of the NCAA Division II Rowing Committee. I look forward to working with the committee as we select the teams and boats for the 2018 Championships. The atmosphere on race days at the NCAA Rowing Championships is amazing and I look forward to working alongside the NCAA staff and my fellow committee members as we ensure a great championship experience for the student-athletes, coaches and fans."

Cousins joins the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country as she enters her second year with the Sharks. While on the committee, Cousins will help develop policies and procedures governing the administration and conduct of the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships.

"I am excited to be chosen as a member of this committee," Cousins explained. "It is a great opportunity to be on the other side of advocating on the student-athletes' behalf. I look forward to learning and contributing as a member of the committee."
