Crutchfield, Sharks Collect Three More 2017 Commits

Two transfer guards and a local forward bring NSU’s class to six

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – With the summer nearing conclusion, head coach Jim Crutchfield and his staff completed the Sharks' 2017 men's basketball signing class with a bang, inking a pair of transfers and an incoming freshman on Thursday.

Continuing to build the depth at the guard position, the Sharks added two veterans in David Dennis and Isaac White, while complementing the roster with a high-energy forward in Nick Stampley.

The trio joins the program following previous commitments already from Malik Hardy, Eddie Puisis and Nick Smith. In addition to the newcomers, Nova Southeastern will return redshirt-junior Lukas Landgren, who played just 28 minutes a year ago due to injury.

David Dennis
Dennis follows Crutchfield from West Liberty just one year removed from posting 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game in 32 starts as a sophomore. The left-handed point guard scored in double-figures 23 times, tallying a career-high 30 points against Wheeling Jesuit in the NCAA regional quarterfinal round in 2017. Dennis' skill set expands beyond the offensive end, having also collected 2.2 steals per game. His experience within Crutchfield's system will be key as well, as the Sharks learn to adapt to a new, up-and-down style of play.

"Anybody that has seen David play could certainly see that he is very skilled," said Crutchfield. "However, I think he brings more to the table than meets the eye. He's an outstanding competitor and he knows what it takes to win, not just on game day but in preparation for games. He knows me, he knows my expectations, and he knows the system that I coach. I think that familiarity will be of great value for our program."

Dennis will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Sharks.

Nick Stampley
Stampley brings an added dimension to the Sharks after a stellar high school career with Blanche Ely in nearby Pompano Beach, Florida. An active forward with plenty of length, Stampley averaged a near-double-double as a senior, claiming second team All-Broward recognition. A proven winner, Stampley guided the Tigers to the regional semifinals in 2017 one year after helping his school win the 2016 FHSAA Class 7A State Championship over St. Petersburg.

"The final piece to this year's recruiting class is a local talent that I believe will be a great asset on our frontline," said Crutchfield. "Nick's quickness, length, and jumping ability are quick to catch your eye, but what sold me on him was the fact that he also does the fundamental things that win games. He takes charges, boxes out on the boards, gets to loose balls and runs hard down the lane. He combines his natural size and athletic ability with fundamentals and a high level of intensity."

Isaac White
An experienced guard from Division I UMASS Lowell, White started in 36 games during his two seasons with the River Hawks. The 6-foot guard averaged 9.4 points, including 13 versus Indiana, and 2.1 assists in 10 games in 2016-17 before being sidelined due to injury. Expected to be at full strength when preseason rolls around in October, White should definitely provide a lift on the offensive end – particularly from beyond the arc. In his lone full season as a freshman in 2015-16, he drained 70 of his 164 three-point attempts (42.7%). The Sharks managed just two players with at least 40 three-point makes last season.

"I recruited Isaac out of high school three years ago, so I am very familiar with the type of person and player he is," said Crutchfield. "He is also familiar with me and the type of basketball that we will be attempting to put on the court at NSU. Isaac is an outstanding shooter, but there is much more to his game than that. He's a smart team player with very good guard skills."

White will have three years of eligibility remaining with the Sharks.
