FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – To prepare for its 2017-18 season, head coach
Devin Fay and the Nova Southeastern rowing team have released its fall schedule, which includes four events.
"We are excited about training this fall," explained Fay. "We have some strong juniors and seniors returning that have really bought into the culture of training consistency as well as our strongest recruiting class since I have been a coach at NSU. I believe this is the strongest team we have had coming into a fall season as we again try to raise the level of the NSU rowing team to new heights this year."
The Sharks will be starting their fall campaign as they have for the past few years on Oct. 14 with an informal head-to-head race against University of Central Florida on the Knights' home course with NSU's top-16 athletes. A new addition to the fall schedule this year is a local race, Head of the Indian Creek, in Miami on Oct. 15. NSU will see Sunshine State Conference foe Barry University and will also get the chance to race the University of Miami with multiple opportunities to row multiple boat classes across all levels of the squad.
The biggest race of the fall is the classic head-style race in Boston, The Head of the Charles, held on Oct. 21-22. As in the past two years, Nova Southeastern will again race their top-four athletes against competition from across the nation in the Collegiate Four event. NSU has finished 2nd and 7th in the past two years in this event.
The fall season is capped off with a new race hosted by Stetson University, the Hatter Invitational, where there will be multiple racing opportunities of longer than 2000 meters for the entire team. This race will take place on Stetson's home course of Lake Beresford where the Sharks will get to see Barry once again, as well as other regular Florida opponents of Jacksonville University and Stetson University.
