Mark Matthews averaged 31.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, leading the Sharks to a pair of quality Sunshine State Conference wins over both Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle. Wednesday’s effort against the Sailfish is one the redshirt senior will remember for quite some time after turning in arguably the most impressive single-game performance in program history. Matthews poured in a career-high 45 points on 21-of-25 from the field, setting the new program, single-game records for points and field goals made in the process, while also surpassing the 1,000-point mark just a season and a half into his notable NSU career. The 45 points in the 103-88 victory are the most by any player in the SSC this season. Matthews then followed up the performance with 17 points and nine boards, as NSU squeezed out a nail-biting 83-82 win versus ERAU – its fourth straight in the series against the Eagles. At 7-2 in league play, the Sharks currently sit tied atop the SSC standings.
