Women's Soccer Breaks Out Of Slump In A Big Way With 6-2 Win Over Lynn

Burton factors in all six goals, ends up with five-point night.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (October 10, 2006) - NSU striker Shurell Burton (So., Palm Bay, Fla.) stopped a three-game scoreless streak with a goal and three assists as Nova Southeastern (9-2, 3-2) defeated the Lynn Fighting Knights (6-6-1, 2-3) by a score of 6-2 on Tuesday night.

Stephanie Quinones (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) opened the scoring in the fourth minute after some nifty passing by Kelly Diershow (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill.) and Burton allowed Quinones to chip a shot from the right side of the 18-yard box and over Lynn goalkeeper Jennifer Shropshire.

In the 23rd minute, Burton forced another goal, banking a pass into the net off of a Lynn defender for a Fighting Knight own goal.

In the 31st minute, Burton scored her 13th goal of the season after Sonia Tadjalli (Fr., Hockessin, Del.) played a long ball to Burton who promptly took the pass, raced past the last defender and poked one past Shropshire.

In the second half, Lauren Huffman (So., Flower Mound, Texas) converted on a penalty kick in the 51st minute after Burton fought her way into the penalty area and was finally hauled down. Huffman would score four minutes later after Burton crossed the ball from the right side of the box. Huffman received the pass and rifled a one-time shot past Shropshire for her fourth goal of the season.

Alexis Hernandez (Fr., Miramar, Fla.) capped the scoring for the Sharks in the 60th minute after Burtons third assist of the match.

Molly Anderson registered a goal and assist for Lynn while Brittany Evernden scored the other goal for the Fighting Knights.

Nicole Paquette (Sr., Seminole, Fla) made seven saves for the Sharks while Shropshire made nine in a match that saw 33 total shots and 24 total shots on goal.

NSU will be back in action on Saturday October 14 as they travel to Lakeland, Fla. to face Florida Southern College at 2pm.
