Women's Soccer Handles The Moccasins

Oligane scores two second half goals as Megan Kim picks up first career victory.

Lakeland, Fla. (October 14, 2006) - With Nova Southeastern (10-2, 4-2) tied 1-1 with Florida Southern (5-10, 2-6) at halftime, NSU head coach Mike Goodrich made an adjustment and moved midfielder Hayley Oligane (So., New Cumberland, Pa) to the forward position to start the second half.

Goodrich was rewarded for his faith.

Oligane scored two second half goals and Lauren Huffman (So., Flower Mound, Texas) tallied two assists as the Sharks defeated the Moccasins by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. The victory was the first for goalkeeper Megan Kim (Fr., Valrico, Fla.) in her first career start.

Shurell Burton (So., Palm Bay, Fla.) opened the scoring in the 14th minute, heading in a Kelly Diershow (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill.) corner kick for her 14th goal of the season and the 25th of her career.

In the 33rd minute, Stephanie Purdy equalized for the Mocs, chipping in a loose ball on the left side of the 18-yard box.

Oligane first struck in the 58th minute, tallying after two crisp passes by Huffman and Heather Swift (So., Titusville, Fla.). Oligane scored again in the 83rd minute, blasting a Huffman free kick into the net, past Florida Southern goalkeeper Kim Fish.

NSU outshot the Mocs 23 to three. Fish made 12 saves in a losing effort while Kim made one.

The Sharks will be back in action on Tuesday, October 17 as they travel to Winter Park, Fla. for a key NCAA south region match with the Rollins College Tars at 7pm.
