Sharks Volleyball Defeated By #2 University of Tampa Spartans

Gorman Posts 11 Kills In Loss To Spartans

Tampa, Fla. (October 22, 2006) - The #2 University of Tampa Spartans beat the NSU Sharks in three games on Sunday afternoon in Tampa, Fla. by the scores of 30-17, 30-20, and 30-24. The loss drops the Sharks to 10-17 overall and 2-10 in Sunshine State Conference play while the Spartans improve to 25-1 and 11-1 in conference play.

Tampa hit well right out of the gate, hitting .379 in the first game en route to victory. The Spartans followed by hitting .485 in the second game and .413 in the third. The Spartans were led by two-time All-American Stephanie Rivera, who had a match high 14 kills.

Nova Southeastern improved their hitting totals in each game vs. the Spartans, hitting over .200 in both the second and third games of the match.

NSU was paced by sophomore outside hitter Melinda Gorman (Sarasota, Fla.) who had 11 kills for the Sharks. Sophomore outside hitter Christina Chubb (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) contributed with nine kills for NSU while senior Itza Miranda ( Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) had a match high 17 digs.

The NSU volleyball team travels to Melbourne, Fla. to take on the Florida Tech Panthers on October 27th at 7 pm. The game can be heard live on the NSU athletics website by clicking on the live audio link.
