NSU Women's Soccer Eeks Out 2-1 Win Over Lynn In SSC Quarterfinals

Sharks to face third-seeded Saint Leo on Friday.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (October 25, 2006) - Nova Southeastern (11-2-2) took a 2-1 on own goal by Lynn University (7-9-1) to advance to the Sunshine State Conference tournament semifinals on Wednesday night.

Brittney Evernden gave Lynn a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, receiving a pass from Mindy DeCara. Evernden took the shot from the right side of the 18-yard box and poked it into the lower left corner of the goal past Sharks' goalkeeper Megan Kim (Fr., Valrico, Fla.).

The Sharks equalized in the 31st minute, when Carolynn Del Moral (So., Deerfield Beach, Fla.) took a shot from 10 yards outside of the penalty area and rifled it past Knights' 'keeper Jennifer Shropshire.

The score remained 1-1 until Kelly Diershow (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill.) went into the penalty area unblocked and took a shot headed toward the lower right corner of the goal. A Lynn defender tried to clear it off the end but tapped it into the net instead, giving NSU the 2-1 lead.

The lead stood, despite several chances for the Knights, including a direct free kick that hit the post.

Kim made five saves for NSU while Shropshire made eight for Lynn.

The third-seeded Sharks now move on to the SSC final four, hosted by the first-seeded University of Tampa and will play #2 Saint Leo at 4:30pm on Friday.
