The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (6-4-1, 2-1-1 SSC) fell by a 3-1 final on Wednesday evening to the #18 ranked Rollins College Tars (10-2-0, 4-1-0 SSC) in Winter Park, Fla.
NSU senior forward Greg Kagan (Newington, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season, but the Sharks could not overcome a three-goal deficit at Rollins. Kagan's 89th minute strike came after a cross from freshman midfielder Anton Siedlitzki (Munich, Germany). Kagan volleyed the ball past Rollins 'keeper Frazer Siddall to break up the shutout.
Rollins opened the scoring in the 16th minute as forward Juan Kusnir headed home a free kick by midfielder Jon Gruenewald. The game went into the half with the host Tars leading 1-0, and out-shooting the Sharks 12-5 in the opening period.
Rollins added a second goal in the 76th minute, as defender Eric Vergati slotted a cross from Wesley Osei past NSU 'keeper Jarod Rennick (Jr., Allen, Tex.). The Tars built their lead to 3-0 by the 85th minute when substitute forward Christopher Chafin tallied after defender Michael Aronski won a 50-50 ball and sent Chafin in alone on goal.
Rollins out-shot NSU 24-12, overall, but only held an 8-7 advantage in shots on goal.
NSU will take to the road again this weekend as they travel to face the University of Tampa at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 7.
