NSU Volleyball Overpowers Florida Tech in 3-0 Victory

Melinda Gorman Records a Double-Double As The NSU Sharks Defeat Florida Tech In Three Games

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (October 6, 2006) - Sophomore outside hitter Melinda Gorman (Sarasota, Fla.) led the Nova Southeastern Sharks to victory in three games over conference opponent Florida Tech on Friday evening as she recorded 10 kills and 13 digs. The Sharks won by the scores of 30-28, 30-24 and 30-28. With the victory NSU improves to 7-14 overall and 1-7 in Sunshine State Conference play.

The Sharks overpowered the Panthers from the opening serve as NSU hit .171 for the match while holding Florida Tech to .047. The Sharks also out-blocked FIT seven to one in the match.

Senior right-side Karla Ortiz (Miami, Fla.) posted eight kills to go along with her eight digs in the match for NSU. Sophomore Andrea Irarrazabal (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the team with four aces while senior libero Itza Miranda (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) was in double figures in digs with 11.

NSU remains home to host conference opponent Rollins College on Saturday, October 7th at 2 p.m.
