The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team (7-4-1, 3-1-1 SSC) defeated the host University of Tampa Spartans (5-8-0, 1-5-0 SSC) by a 2-1 score in overtime on Saturday evening.
NSU freshman forward Romain Onteniente converted on a penalty kick in the fourth minute of overtime to seal the victory for the Sharks. The goal was the first in Onteniente's college career.
Sharks senior forward Lorcan Cronin (Dublin, Ireland) opened the scoring in the 38th minute on assists from Michael Collins (Fr., San Antonio, Texas) and Anton Siedlitzki (Fr., Munich, Germany).
Tampa equalized in the 77th minute as Ryan Maxwell scored on a PK after a foul in the box.
The match saw five yellow cards and three PK's issued by the referees. Tampa held the advantage in shots on goal by an 8 to 4 margin. NSU 'keeper Jarod Rennick (Jr., Allen, Tex.) was stellar in goal with seven saves, including one on a penalty kick midway through the second half.
NSU returns to home for a key Sunshine State Conference match on Wednesday, October 11, at 7:00 p.m. versus the No. 1 ranked Lynn University Fighting Knights at the NSU Soccer Complex.
