MIAMI SHORES, Fla (December 30, 2006) - The Bryant College Bulldogs (7-5) had three players reach double figures as they defeated the Nova Southeastern Sharks (2-9) by a score of 65-50 on Saturday, day two of the Barry Holiday Classic.
In the first half, the Bulldogs built a 22-11 lead after a jumper by guard Erin Murphy with 9:16 remaining. The Sharks would rally 17-14 for the rest of the half cut it to a 36-28 deficit at halftime. In the half, NSU shot 29 percent from the field, including 1-11 from downtown while Bryant shot 38 percent.
In the second half, the Sharks made it a three-point game after a made layup by forward Jennifer Havens (Sr., Ontario, Ore.) with 16:15 remaining.
The Bulldogs would then go on a 17-0 run to seal the win, capped by a lay-in by Bryant forward Lauren Rubenoff. Point guard Lauren Skiba sparked the run, reeling off 11 consecutive points.
For the game, Skiba finished with 18 points and six assists while Rubenoff added 13 points and guard Lynne-Ann Kokoski poured in 11 points.
For the Sharks, Havens led the way, scoring 12 points while swingman Amber Bishko (Jr., Orlando, Fla) pitched in with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Nova Southeastern will be back in action on Wednesday, January 3 as they host the Florida Southern College Moccasins in the first-ever Sunshine State Conference basketball at the University Center Arena at 5:30pm.
