Women's Soccer Feeds On Sailfish

Burton strikes for three goals as the Sharks win season-opener

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (August, 26, 2006) - NSU forward Shurell Burton (So., Palm Bay, Fla.) registered a hat trick and Hayley Oligane (So., New Cumberland, Pa.) tallied a goal and two assists as the Nova Southeastern Sharks opened the season with a 6-1 victory over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday night.

In the first half, the Sharks jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Burton scored two goals in less than 12 minutes. In the second half, Burton scored her third goal giving the Sharks a 3-0 advantage.

Laura Bowers scored the lone goal for the Sailfish, assisted by Lindsey Bates.

After the Sailfish closed the gap to 3-1, the Sharks scored three unanswered goals from Jackie Burlison (Fr., Colleyville, Texas), Oligane and Sonia Tadjalli (Fr., Hockessin, Del.), respectively.

Kelly Diershow (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill.) also registered an assist via a corner kick for the Sharks. Goalkeeper, Nicole Paquette (Jr., Seminole, Fla.) only faced two shots making one save while Ashley Morrell made 10 saves for the Sailfish.

NSU is now 1-0-0 on the season and Palm Beach Atlantic is now 1-1-0. The Sharks are back in action Monday, August 28 at 5:00 pm as they host Webber International University.
