Volleyball Comes Back to Defeat Central Oklahoma in Sharks Classic

Fort Lauderdale, FL (August 26, 2006) - Down two games to one and 14-6 in the fourth game, the Nova Southeastern University Sharks pulled together for a spectacular comeback to win their first match of the season over the University Central Oklahoma three games to two by the scores of 30-26, 28-30, 22-30, 30-25, and 17-15. "The bottom line was that we found the will to win", said Interim Head Coach Steve Wilcosky. The win improves the Sharks record to 1-3 on the campaign while Central Oklahoma fell to 2-2 on the season.

The Sharks were led by sophomore outside hitter Christina Chubb of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. with 18 kills and seven digs. Also in double figures in kills for the victors were senior middle blocker Karla Ortiz of Miami, Fla. with 17, sophomore hitter Melinda Gorman of Sarasota, Fla. with 13 kills, freshman outside hitter Jenerra McGruder of Euless, Texas with 11 kills and sophomore outside hitter Andrea Irarrazabal of Pembroke Pines, Fla. with 10. Senior setter Megan Johansen of Arlington, Neb. accounted for 60 assists.

In a game earlier in the day in the Sharks Classic, NSU dropped a close 3-2 decision to Minnesota State by the scores of 28-30, 32-30, 22-30, 30-24, and 7-15. The Sharks were paced by Johansen who fell just one kill shy of a triple-double with 9 kills, 47 assists and 15 digs. Chubb led all hitters with 17 kills while senior libero Itza Miranda of Toa Baja, Puerto-Rico recorded 35 digs.
