Eckerd Squeaks By Sharks Volleyball in Five Games

Emily Carle and Karla Ortiz Post 21 and 20 Kills Respectively

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (September 24, 2006) - Nova Southeastern dropped a close five game match to conference opponent Eckerd College on Sunday afternoon by the scores of 30-24, 21-30, 29-31, 30-22, and 15-13. The Sharks now stand at 6-11 on the season, including 0-5 in Sunshine State Conference play. With the victory Eckerd College improves to 10-6, 1-3 in conference play.

NSU was led by sophomore Emily Carle (Missouri City, Texas) with 21 kills and a .370 attack percentage. Close behind was sophomore Christina Chubb (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) who had 20 kills in the match. Karla Ortiz (Miami, Fla.) and Andrea Irarrazabal (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) each recorded a double-double versus the Tritons. Ortiz had 10 kills and 15 digs while Irarrazabal had 11 kills and 20 digs. Senior libero Itza Miranda (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) had a match high 24 digs for the Sharks. In the loss the Sharks posted a season high in the number of digs in a match this season with 102.

Leigh Badoyen led the Tritons with 22 kills and a .500 attack percentage. Lydee Benoit had 19 kills and 19 digs while libero Kelly Morrisroe posted 28 digs.

The Sharks will remain at home to play conference opponent Lynn University on Wednesday, September 27th at 7 pm and then will hit the road to face rival Barry University on Saturday, September 30th at 4 pm in Miami Shores, Fla.
