Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (September 27, 2006) - The Nova Southeastern volleyball team fell to conference rival Lynn University in four games by scores of 30-27, 30-27, 29-31 and 30-25. With the loss the Sharks fall to 6-12 overall and 0-6 in Sunshine State Conference play. Lynn improves to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Senior Karla Ortiz (Miami, Fla.) led five players with double figure kill totals for the Sharks with 15 while sophomore Andrea Irarrazabal recorded 14. Sophomores Melinda Gorman (Sarasota, Fla.), Christina Chubb (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), and Emily Carle (Missouri City, Texas) had 13, 12, and 11 respectively. Senior Setter Megan Johansen (Arlington, Neb.) had 55 assists.
Defensively the Sharks were led by Senior libero Itza Miranda (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) with 22 digs. Ortiz and Gorman were also in double figures with 16 and 14. Gorman also had a team high five blocks.
Larissa Witherspoon and Irmina Zamara led the Knights of Lynn University with 18 and 17 kills apiece.
The Sharks are back in action on the road versus Barry University on Saturday, September 30th in Miami Shores, Fla.
