Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (September 28, 2006) - Nova Southeastern University suffered its first loss of the 2006 campaign in heartbreak fashion to #21 nationally ranked Saint Leo University by a 1-0 final. Saint Leo scored off of a deflected free kick with 16 seconds remaining in the first overtime period for the game winner. With the loss NSU falls to 8-1-0 overall and 2-1 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Casie Poyssick scored the game-winning goal for Saint Leo by deflecting a free kick from Sara Macko to account for the final score. The free kick was sent into the middle of the box where it deflected of the shoulder of Poyssick and whizzed by multiple defenders and snuck by NSU goalie Nicole Pacquette for the game-winner.
In a physical, defensive game, NSU high-scoring attack was contained by the Lions. The Sharks were outshot 15-7 in the game. Sophomore forward Shurell Burton led the team with three shots, all of which were on goal.
Paquette recorded three save in the match, including one earlier in the overtime period.
