Women's Soccer Seizes The Bobcats

Streaking Sharks improve to 4-0-0.

(Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) September 6, 2006 - Shurell Burton (So., Palm Bay, Fla.) scored two goals and Lauren Johnsen (So., Sugarland, Texas) tallied a goal and an assist as Nova Southeastern (4-0-0) defeated the St. Thomas Bobcats (0-2-0) on Wednesday night by a score of 5-0.

Hayley Oligane (So., New Cumberland, Pa.) drew first blood for the Sharks, scoring her third goal of the season following an assist from Lissette Palacio (So., Melbourne, Fla.) one minute and 34 seconds into the match. The Sharks then went for the kill, scoring three more goals in the first half, the two from Burton, the second of which was on a breakaway and Stephanie Quinones' (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) second goal of the season.

In the second half, Johnsen scored the lone goal for NSU, putting in a shot after a pass from the left side of the box by Kristine Knoll (So., Rockwall, Texas).

Goalkeeper Nicole Paquette (Jr., Seminole, Fla.) made one save, facing one shot, keeping a clean sheet for her first shutout of the season as well as NSU's third consecutive shutout.

Sandra Vargas registered the only shot of the game for St. Thomas while Maria Mora and Erin Barrett split time in goal for the Bobcats, making four and six saves, respectively.

NSU's defense now has not allowed a goal since the 57:55 mark of the team's season-opening 6-1 victory against Palm Beach Atlantic. In addition, the Sharks have outscored their opponents 20-1 in their first four matches of the season.

The Sharks will put their unbeaten and shutout streaks on the line as they travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas for a Saturday matinee against Ouchita Baptist University at 2pm Eastern Time.
