St. Petersburg, Fla. (October 16, 2007) - All-American midfielder Stephanie Quinones (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) saved her first goal of the season for when her team needed it most, tying the game at 1-1 in the 71st minute as the Nova Southeastern Sharks (8-2-1, 3-1-1 SSC) escaped an inspired Eckerd Triton squad (0-14-1, 0-5-1) with a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night at Eckerd's North Soccer Field.
The Tritons took an early 1-0 lead when Paige Lewis slipped behind the NSU defense on a long ball from Liz Kinny and chipped a shot over Sharks' 'keeper Sarah Glass (So., Melbourne, Fla.) in the 11th minute.
NSU recovered to outshoot the Tritons 17-4 in the first half but still trailed at the intermission.
Eckerd kept the Sharks off the board until Quinones received a through pass from Lauren Prow (Fr., Valparaiso, Ind.) and rifled a shot past Eckerd goalkeeper Cory Hawkins to equalize at 1-1.
Despite NSU outshooting the Tritons, 48-6 for the game, Hawkins kept the Sharks off the board for the rest of regulation and both overtimes, making a whopping 25 saves. Meanwhile, Glass made one save and the Sharks held a 14-2 corner kick advantage.
Nova Southeastern will return to action on Saturday, October 20 as they host the Rollins College Tars at 6pm at the NSU Soccer Complex.
