Jonathan Mammarelli (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) scored the lone goal for Nova Southeastern (9-4-1) as they fell to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (8-3) by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.
PBA jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when Matt Sweesy headed a Cheyne Roberts free kick past NSU goalkeeper Jarod Rennick (Sr., Allen, Texas).
The Sailfish added another goal three minutes later when Daniel Abrahamsohn slotted the ball past Rennick to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Jonathan Mammarelli (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) put the Sharks on the board, heading a cross from Tim Taylor (Fr., Farmington Hills, Mich.) to close the gap to one goal in the 54th minute.
Four minutes later, Sweesy was sent off with a straight red card but, for the Sharks, it was all for naught as they could not get another one past PBA goalkeeper Joseph Yurchak.
For the game, NSU outshot PBA 17-11 while the Sailfish committed 17 fouls to the Sharks' 13. Corner kicks were nearly even at 6-5 in favor of NSU.
Yurchak made four saves while Rennick made five.
Nova Southeastern will return to action on Saturday, October 20 as they host the Embry-Riddle Eagles at 8pm at the NSU Soccer Complex.
