Romain Onteniente (So., Nice, France) registered six points on two goals and two assists as the Nova Southeastern Sharks (11-5-1) defeated the Flagler College Saints by a score of 4-2 on Friday evening at the NSU Soccer Complex.
Onteniente opened the scoring in the ninth minute when he took a pass from Terence Condor (So., Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis) and rifled it pass Saints' goalkeeper Jacob Kellerman for the 1-0 lead.
Flagler answered back in the 23rd minute when David Iafrate headed a service from Boris Kalff past NSU goalkeeper Jarod Rennick (Sr., Allen, Texas).
One minute later, NSU took the lead for good when Darryl Gordon (Fr., Miami, Fla.) scored his third goal of the season, taking a pass from Onteniente on the right side of the 18 and pushing it past Kellerman.
After Josiah Holtz came in to relieve Kellerman, Onteniente added another goal, his 18th of the season, when he converted a penalty kick after Aly Hassan (Fr., Weston, Fla.) was hauled down inside the 18 in the 36th minute, to widen the lead to 3-1.
NSU would score their fourth and final goal in the 61st minute when Brian Cardozo (Fr., Davie, Fla.) converted on an Onteniente corner kick to score the first goal of his career.
Jeff Hoffman added one more goal for the Saints in a losing effort.
For the game, Flagler outshot NSU 13-11, while corner kicks were even at four apiece. The foul count was 14 for Flagler and nine for the Sharks.
NSU now awaits the result of the Saint Leo-Barry season finale. If Barry defeats or draws the Lions, the Sharks will host Saint Leo on Tuesday at the NSU Soccer Complex in the quarterfinal round of the SSC Tournament. If Saint Leo beats Barry, the Sharks will travel to Saint Leo on Tuesday.
