Lynn forward Dwight Barnett recorded a hat trick as the Lynn Fighting Knights (10-1-0, 3-1-0 SSC) came from behind to defeat the Nova Southeastern Sharks (8-1-1, 2-1-1) by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Lynn's McCusker Sports Complex.
In the first half, NSU forward Romain Onteniente (So., Nice, France) gave the Sharks the early 1-0 lead, capitalizing on a bad pass at midfield and slotting the ball into the lower right corner past Knights' goalkeeper Adam Alcock for his league-leading 11th goal of the season.
With the score 1-0 at halftime, NSU equaled Lynn with five shots but held the Knights without a shot on goal.
In the second half, however, it would be a different story as Lynn, led by Barnett, outshot the Sharks 13-5 in the second stanza.
Barnett scored his first goal in the 56th minute, chipped one over Sharks' 'keeper Jarod Rennick (Sr., Allen, Texas) in the 66th minute and added one for good measure in the 84th minute.
For the game, Lynn held an 18-10 advantage in shots while fouls were even at 17 apiece. Corner kicks were also knotted at six.
Rennick made a season-high nine saves in a losing effort while Alcock made seven.
NSU will be back in action on Saturday, October 6 as they return to the NSU Soccer Complex to host the Tampa Spartans at 8pm.
