FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (October 30, 2007) - Chris Pruitt (Fr., Canton, Mich.) scored his first career goal and Jarod Rennick (Sr., Allen, Texas) recorded his fifth shutout of the season as the fourth-seeded Nova Southeastern Sharks (12-5-1) defeated the fifth-seeded Saint Leo Lions (9-5-3) by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday night at a windy NSU Soccer Complex.
Pruitt put the Sharks on the board in the 28th minute when he headed a Romain Onteniente (So., Nice, France) free kick, redirecting it past Lions' goalkeeper Griffin Pharr for the 1-0 lead.
Although Saint Leo would end up outshooting the Sharks 9-8, the Lions were never able to get one past Rennick. Corner kicks and fouls were in favor of NSU at 7-6 and 15-10, respectively.
Rennick made three saves while Pharr also made three.
NSU will now move on to the SSC semifinal round where it will square off against the top-seeded Lynn Fighting Knights at 11am at Lynn's McCusker Sports Complex.
Live coverage of the game will be presented via the NSU Athletics Audiocast Network.
