No. 21 NSU Women's Soccer Defeats Lynn in SSC Quarterfinal Action

Kelly Diershow Beats Lynn for third consecutive game, Sharks Eliminate Knights for Third Consecutive Year

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (October 30, 2007) - Kelly Diershow (Fr., Schaumburg, Ill.) scored in the fourth minute and the Nova Southeastern defense, led by SSC Defensive Player of the Week Jennifer Turner (Sr., Rockledge, Fla.), did the rest as the third-seeded Sharks (11-2-2) defeated the sixth-seeded Lynn Fighting Knights (8-10) by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday afternoon at the a breezy, blustery NSU Soccer Complex.

Three minutes and 38 seconds into the game, NSU defender Alyssa Fernandez (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) found Diershow with a pass near the top of the 18-yard box. Diershow's shot slipped through the hands of Knights' goalkeeper Natalie Feller to give NSU the 1-0 lead.

It was the third consecutive game against Lynn, all of which were decided by one goal, in which Diershow scored the game-winning goal, dating back to last year's SSC quarterfinal. It also marks the third consecutive year in which the Sharks have eliminated the Knights in the SSC quarterfinal round.

That would account for the only scoring in a defensive battle that saw 11 total shots and four shots on goal for both teams.

By games end, NSU outshot Lynn 6-5 and held a 2-0 corner kick advantage. The foul count was nearly even as the Knights committed 13 to the Sharks 11.

In her first career postseason start, Sarah Glass (So., Melbourne, Fla.) earned the clean sheet, making four saves while Feller made three.

NSU will return to action on Friday, November 2 as they will travel to the University of Tampa to take on second-seeded Saint Leo at 4:30pm at UT's Pepin Stadium in SSC semifinal action.

The live coverage will be available via the NSU Athletics Audiocast Network.
