St. Petersburg, Fla. (October 7, 2007) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team lost a 3-0 decision by the scores of 30-24, 30-21 and 30-27 at Eckerd College in play on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Sharks record to 16-6 overall and 6-2 in Sunshine State Conference play. Eckerd improves to 15-5 and 5-3 in SSC play.
NSU hit .169 for the match while Eckerd hit .289. The Tritons had 18 more kills and 19 more assists than the Sharks while posting 12 more digs in the match.
Nova Southeastern was led by outside hitter Christina Chubb (Jr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) with 12 kills and middle Melinda Gorman (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) with 10. Setter Valia Petrova (Jr., Sofia, Bulgaria) tallied a team high 34 assist and 11 digs in the match. Gorman recorded five blocks to lead the Sharks defensively.
Eckerd was paced by Lydee Benoit with 19 kills while middle Keisha Carter posted 10 kills, a .421 attack percentage and seven blocks.
NSU returns home to host Palm Beach Atlantic University on Tuesday, October 9th at 7pm in the University Center Arena.
