Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (November 9, 2007) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team defeated Saint Leo University three games to two by the scores of 30-26, 26-30, 26-30, 30-24 and 15-8 in play on Friday evening. The win improves the Sharks record to 25-8 on the season and 11-4 in Sunshine State Conference play. Saint Leo falls to 24-12 and 6-9 in SSC play.
Sharks setter Valia Petrova (Jr., Sofia, Bulgaria) recorded her third triple-double of the season, leading NSU with 10 kills, 61 assists, and 17 digs. Petrova hit .444 in the match and also contributed with two service aces and four block assists.
Nova Southeastern out-hit SLU .243 to .174 in the match, tallying 23 more kills, 23 more assists, eight more digs and 22 more total points.
Opposite Aley Tallman (So., Wichita, Kan.) posted a new career high with 23 kills. She hit .463 in the match, with only four errors in 41 attempts. Tallman also had three assists, one ace, and 11 digs.
Middle Melinda Gorman (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) had 16 kills, followed by Christina Chubb, who filled in the middle for an injured Emily Carle (Jr., Missouri City, Tex.), with 11. Libero Kathleen Yony (Fr., Miami, Fla.) had 14 digs for NSU.
Saint Leo was led by middles Emily Frey with 11 kills and Kaitlin McKenna with 10.
The Sharks play their final home match of the season on Saturday, November 10th at 4pm inside the University Center Arena. Seniors Jenny Fitch (Batavia, Ill.) and Jessica Donisi (Palm Bay, Fla.) will be honored before the match.
