Aly Hassan (Fr., Weston, Fla.), 2007's Broward County 6A Player of the Year, scored two goals in his first collegiate game and goalkeeper Jarod Rennick (Sr., Allen, Texas) made nine saves en route to a clean sheet as the Nova Southeastern Sharks (1-0) defeated the North Georgia Saints (0-1) by a score of 3-0 on Thursday night at Allen Creek Park.
The start of the game was delayed 30 minutes due to thunderstorms.
In the 12th minute, Hassan struck for the Sharks' first goal of 2007 as he took a pass from Brian Cardozo (Fr., Davie, Fla.) near the top of the 18-yard box and chipped a shot over Saints' keeper Brandon Kirksey.
The score remained 1-0 through halftime as NSU outshot North Georgia 13-6 in the first frame.
The turning point of the game came when Saints' defender Ben Chedgy received a red card and was sent off for intentionally striking Chris Pruitt (Fr., Canton, Mich.) in the back with his arm.
A little over a minute later, Hassan struck again, after receiving a pass from Jonathan Mammarelli (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.)
Romain Onteniente (So., Nice, France) iced the game with his first goal of the season, on one of his seven shots, in the 69th after a long cross from Craig Heenighan (Fr., Widnes, England).
For the game, NSU outshot North Georgia 23-12 while Jarod Rennick made nine saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Tim Taylor (Fr., Farmington Hills, Mich.), Heenighan, Mammarelli and Cardozo all registered assists.
Jorell Elie took three shots while Kirksey made five saves for the Saints.
NSU will return to action on Sunday, August 26 as they travel to Thomasville, Ga. to take on Thomas University at 3pm.
