Tampa, Fla. (August 26, 2007) - Lauren Prow (Fr., Valparaiso, Ind.) scored her first collegiate goal in the first game of her career but it was not enough as the Nova Southeastern Sharks (0-1) lost its season-opener against the fourth-ranked Tampa Spartans (2-0).
Play remained even until the 36th minute when Shelby Kuni, the 2005 SSC Freshman of the Year, came off the bench for the Spartans and scored the first goal of the game after receiving a pass from Courtney Evans.
Evans would tally another assist nine minutes later after Nicole Murphy hit the back of the net following an Evans corner kick.
In NSU's comeback attempt, Prow broke through for the Sharks, scoring in the 86th minute following a pass from Stephanie Quinones (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.).
NSU, though, ran out of time as they were held to three shots on goal by the Spartans' stifling defense.
Sharks' goalkeeper Megan Kim (So., Valrico, Fla.) made five saves in a losing effort while Shannon Aitken made two.
Tampa outshot NSU 10-6 while committing nine fouls to the Sharks' six.
NSU will be back in action on Friday, August 31 as they take on Harding University (Ark.) in a key south regional matchup in what will be the Sharks' home opener at 8pm.
