Melbourne, Fla. (September 26, 2007) -The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team swept Florida Tech 3-0 by the scores of 30-22, 30-28, and 30-25 in play on the road Wednesday evening. The win, NSU's ninth consecutive, brings the Sharks' record to 14-4 (4-0 SSC) while Florida Tech drops to 11-5 (0-5 SSC).
NSU out-hit Florida Tech .172 to .026 in the match and recorded 14 more kills than the Panthers. The Sharks also had five more blocks, seven more aces, and 14 more assists in the match.
Opposite Aley Tallman (So., Wichita, Kan) led the NSU attack with 11 kills and a .259 hitting percentage. She was followed by middle Melinda Gorman (Jr., Sarasota, Fla.) with nine and Emily Carle (Jr., Missouri City, Tex.) and Paola Ruiz (Fr., Rio Piedras, P.R.) with eight each. Setter Valia Petrova (Jr., Sofia, Bulgaria) distributed 39 assists in addition all-around performance of nine digs, three aces, two kills and two blocks. Ruiz led the Sharks with 11 digs.
The Sharks have now won seven consecutive games, winning the deciding game five vs. Lynn University before sweeping both Barry University and Florida Tech. The win also marks the most wins in program history inside the Sunshine State Conference and continues the best start in program history since joining NCAA Division II in 2002.
NSU returns home to host Rollins College at 7pm on Friday, September 28th and #9 Florida Southern at 4pm on Saturday, September 29th in the University Center Arena.
