NSU Volleyball Impressive In Three Game Sweep At Lynn University

Sharks Win Third Consecutive SSC Match

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Oct. 14, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University volleyball team won their third consecutive Sunshine State Conference match, a three game sweep over Lynn University, by the scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-23 on Tuesday evening inside the de Hoernle Center. The win improves the Sharks record to 16-5 on the season and 5-2 in SSC play while Lynn falls to 12-11 overall and 3-5 in SSC play.

NSU came out ready to play, winning the first set, 25-21. The Sharks hit .231 in the set, led by Jenerra McGruder (Jr., Euless, Tex.) and Melinda Gorman (Sr., Sarasota, Fla.) with four kills apiece. Camila Lins kept Lynn in the set with six kills.

The Sharks carried their momentum over to game two, hitting a match high .314 en route to the 25-18 victory. Emily Carle (Sr., Missouri City, Tex.) and Christina Chubb (Sr., Oakland Park, Fla.) registered four kills apiece in the set for NSU. Setter Valia Petrova (Sr., Sofia, Bulgaria) tallied 12 assists while libero Kathleen Yony (So., Miami, Fla.) had five digs. Lynn was held to a match low .061 attack percentage.

Two blocks apiece from Carle, Molly Sigerich (Fr., Downers Grove, Ill.) Petrova and Chubb paved the way for a 25-23 match clinching win in the third set for NSU. The Sharks hit .211 as a team, led by Carle and McGruder with three kills each. Petrova added ten more assists.

For the match, NSU out-hit Lynn .250 to .108. The Sharks had 13 more kills, 12 more assists, one more ace, and five more blocks than Lynn in the match. Nova Southeastern also totaled 19 more points.

McGruder and Gorman tied for the NSU lead with nine kills apiece. Carle and Chubb followed with eight. Petrova registered a match high 31 assists while Yony and Paola Ruiz (So., Rio Piedras, P.R.) each tallied doubles figures in digs.

Lins totaled 16 kills in the losing effort for Lynn.

The Sharks return to play on Tuesday, October 21st versus Barry University at 7 pm inside the University Center Arena.
