FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (Oct. 15, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University Men's Soccer Team played host to North Georgia College & State Wednesday night at the NSU Soccer Complex.
The Sharks (8-5-1, 1-2-0 SSC) came out biting early against the Saints (5-9-1) and clenched down even tighter as the game progressed. Romain Onteniente (Jr., Nice, France) got the Sharks off to a fast start with a left-footed goal within the first few minutes of the game after a brilliant assist from teammate Juan Gonzalez (So., Pompano Beach, Fla.). Gonzalez, who had two goals on the night, earned his first when he scorched the back of the net to give the sharks a 2-0 half way through the first half.
Nova Southeastern then decided to start the second half the way they began the first. Aly Hassan (So., Davie, Fla.) produced goal number three for him and his teammates after receiving one of Romain Onteniente's (Nice, France) two assists. Onteniente would later be returned the favor from teammate David Walhberg (Jr., Skanor, Sweden) at 54:46, when his assist helped Romain capture his second goal of the night. Walhberg would then follow with a goal of his own, and Aly Hassan (Davie, Fla.) added Nova's seventh goal, and his second, at the 72 minute mark with assist from junior Nate Dunbar (Southbury, Conn.) and senior Vadim Shapiro (Carmel, Ind.).
Not to be overshadowed was the outstanding play of Nova Southeastern's Juan Vizcarrando (So.,Weston, Fla.). The Sharks' goal keeper shut down the Saints offense and collected three saves while facing 10 shots to help preserve the Sharks 7-0 shutout.
The Nova Southeastern University Men's Soccer team will next travel to play Rollins College on Saturday Oct. 18 at 6:00pm.
