Moccasins Top Women Sharks 5-1

NSU remains winless in SSC

LAKELAND, FLA. (Oct. 17, 2008) - Nova Southeastern University Women's Soccer was on the road Friday night to take on Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern.

The Sharks (6-4-3, 0-4-2 SSC) found themselves down early when Florida Southern sophomore Jackie Bachteler supplied the Moccasins (10-3-0, 4-0-0 SSC) with their first goal of the night barely five minutes into the game. Nearly 10 minutes later, Bachteler shared the wealth when she, along with Liz Gorman, assisted teammate Erin Hopkins with her 10th goal of the season, giving Florida Southern a 2-0 lead. Gorman would then pay it forward at the 20:30 mark when she contributed with the Moccasin's third goal of the night, a close right wing shot, by senior Linda Hogland.

Down 3-0 in the second half, the Sharks' Lissette Palacio (Sr., Melbourne, Fla.) found Natalie Bellini (Sr., Tamarac, Fla.) on the left wing for NSU's first goal, and Bellini's second of the season. The Sharks' attack would soon be returned. Moccasin sophomore Princess Haley added her 7th and 8th goals of the season. Haley's two goals would increase the Florida Southern lead to 4 with 12 minutes left in the game.

The Sharks' Lisa Wikner (Fr., Uppasala, Sweden), and Elizabeth Brauher (Jr., Hilo, Hawaii) would both get shots at bringing NSU closer, but their attempts sailed wide right of the goal. Nova Southeastern's loss keeps them winless in the Sunshine State Conference, and the 5-1 victory for the Moccasins puts them in a first place tie with Tampa atop the standings.
