NSU Men's Soccer Blanks Eckerd, 2-0

Sharks record their third-consecutive shutout

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Oct. 21, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team recorded its third-straight shutout victory on Wednesday night as the Sharks topped Eckerd 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference action at the NSU Soccer Complex. NSU, who has outscored opponents 12-0 in its last three games, now improves to 10-5-1 on the season and 3-2-0 in the SSC. Eckerd falls to 9-6-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the SSC.

"Obviously it was a good result for us and is something to build on," said head coach Giuseppe DePalo. "Hopefully we can continue on this good form down the stretch."

Alvin Quaye (Fr., London, England) notched his first collegiate goal with in the 10th minute to give NSU a 1-0 lead. A pass from David Wahlberg (Jr., Skanor, Sweden) found its way through traffic to Quaye, who shot the ball into the lower right corner.

Both teams had multiple chances throughout the remainder of the game. However, it was not until the 81st minute when NSU capitalized on a Wahlberg shot. Wahlberg one-timed a Rich Bodek (Sr., Colonia, N.J.) feed from the top of the 18-yard box that found its way to the goal and gave the Sharks a 2-0 advantage.

Eckerd outshot the Sharks 20-15. The Tritons took 12 corner kicks to NSU's seven and committed 14 fouls, while the Sharks made seven. NSU posted seven saves in the game, while the Tritons had four.

Juan Vizcarrando (So., Weston, Fla.) made all seven of the Sharks' saves en route to recording his second shutout of the season. Romain Onetneiente (Jr., Nice, France) made a game-high six shots.

Domenic Spedaliere had four saves for the Tritons. Joseph Ilett and Anthony Arico had a team-high five shots.

NSU returns to the action on Saturday when the Sharks host Florida Tech at the NSU Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
