FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Oct. 25, 2008) - Nova Southeastern University's men's soccer team fell to Florida Tech 7-2 in on Saturday night at the NSU Soccer Complex. With the loss, the Sharks fall to 10-6-1 overall and 3-3-0 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Panthers improve to 5-9-1 on the season and 2-4-1 in the SSC.
Florida Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from David Tufft in the 21st minute and Ryan Hagerty in the 27th minute. The Sharks made it a one-goal game in the 32nd minute as Romain Onteniente (Jr., Nice, France) recorded his eighth tally of the season. Juan Gonzalez (So., Pompano Beach, Fla.) slipped the ball to Onteniente, who ripped the ball from the top of the 18-yard box and into the goal. However, Florida Tech increased its lead with back-to-back Stanley Abada goals to take a 4-1 lead heading into halftime.
The Panthers scored the first goal of the second half with Hagerty finding the net in the 60th minute. However, seven minutes later, NSU found itself playing a man-down as Onteniente was issued a red card.
After Florida Tech got a goal from Naru Wild-Putsorn in the 77th minute, David Wahlberg (Jr., Skanor, Sweden) scored off a feed from Iker Ibanez (So., Weston, Fla.) in the 81st minute. However, two minutes later, Wild-Putsom recorded the games final tally.
NSU outshot the Panthers 28-22. Both teams each took three corner kicks. Florida Tech held the edge on saves (8-3) and committed more fouls (17-15).
Juan Vizcarrando (So., Weston, Fla.) and Travis Frazier (Fr., West End, N.C.) split time in goal for the Sharks. Vizcarrando played in the first half, making two saves. Frazier made one save in the second half.
Cory Collins recorded seven saves for the Panthers. Florida Tech also had a team save.
NSU returns to action on Wednesday night at Saint Leo. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. from University Field
