NSU Men's Falls 3-1 to Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2008) - Nova Southeastern University's men's soccer team lost to Saint Leo 3-1 on Wednesday night. Craig Heenighan (So. Widnes, England) recorded the only goal for the Sharks, who fall to 10-7-1 on the season and 3-4-0 in Sunshine State Conference action. Saint Leo improves to 9-6-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the SSC.

All three of Saint Leo's goals came in the first half. Eusebio Montoya scored the game's first goal in the 15th minute. A goal by Jonathan Glenn in the 35th minute gave the Lions a 2-0 lead. A minute later, Bruce Cutler converted on his penalty kick to put the Lions up 3-0.

In the second half, NSU drew a foul in the 68th minute that set Heenighan up for a penalty kick. Heenighan shot the ball past Lion goalkeeper Griffin Pharr for what proved to be the Sharks' lone goal of the game.

The Lions outshot NSU 23-12 and had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. NSU totaled eight saves, while Saint Leo had four. The Sharks also committed 15 fouls. The Lions had 13 fouls.

Juan Vizcarrando (So., Weston, Fla.) made all eight of NSU's saves. Pharr made three stops, while Saint Leo also had a team save.

NSU closes out the regular season on Saturday when the Sharks host No. 2 Lynn on what will be Senior Night at the NSU Soccer Complex. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
