FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA. (Oct. 3, 2008) After playing almost perfect defense this past week in Tampa, the Nova Southeastern women's soccer team (6-1-3) found their offensive side in the second half of a 2-0 shutout victory over the Flagler Saints (4-7-0) on Friday night.
The defense played tough only allowing a total of three shots on the night. Of the three attempts on goal by the Saints, none of them appeared threatening with the Sharks goalkeeper Megan Kim (Jr., Varico, Fla.) standing post. Kim watched on from the goalie box as her teammates pounded on her position counterpart, Flagler goalie Kaitlyn Goffe, with 23 attempts on the net.
Late in the second half the physical battle finally broke the scoreless game when sophomore, Alexis Hernandez (Weston, Fla.) scored her seventh goal of the season for the game-winner. Natalie Bellini (Sr., Tamarac, Fla.) was credited with the assist.
With 6:25 left in the game, NSU forward Lisa Wikner (Fr., Uppsala, Sweden) gave the Sharks some breathing room with her second goal of the season off a Shurell Burton (Palm Bay, Fla.) rebound shot notching the game at 2-0.
Nova Southeastern will take the field again on Wednesday, Oct. 8 hosting Florida Tech at the NSU Soccer Complex at 6 pm in Sunshine State Conference action.
