Saint Leo, Fla. (Nov. 4, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University men's soccer team fell to fourth-seed Saint Leo 3-1 in the Sunshine State Conference Men's Soccer Championship quarterfinals on Tuesday night at University Field. Saint Leo now advances to the semifinals and faces second-seeded Tampa on Friday. Meanwhile, the Sharks finish the season with a 10-9-1 overall record.
All three of Saint Leo's goals came in the first half. A pair of goals by Eusebio Montoya in the sixth and 14th minutes allowed Saint Leo to take took a 2-0 lead.
The Lions then added a third tally in the 27th minute, scoring off a free kick from just outside NSU's 18 yard box. Brandon Whitsett's free kick curved around the Sharks' wall and tucked inside the right post to put Saint Leo up 3-0, which would ultimately be the score heading into halftime.
The Sharks got on the scoreboard in the 86th minute. Romain Onteniente (Jr., Nice, France) took a corner kick that bounced off the Saint Leo defense and into the net.
Saint Leo led the game in shots (26-12), saves (6-5) and corner kicks (7-3), while NSU committed more fouls (8-4).
Juan Vizcarrondo (So., Weston, Fla.) made four saves in 74:49 minutes of play. Jonathan Dominguez (Fr., Cliffside Park, N.J.) played the remaining 15:11 for the Sharks, making one save.
Griffin Pharr made all six of the Lions' saves.
