St. Petersburg, Fla. (September 10, 2008)- The Nova Southeastern Sharks defeated the Eckerd College Tritons 2-0 in women's soccer action on Wednesday evening. The win improves the Sharks' record to 2-0-1 on the season while Eckerd falls to 2-3.
The Sharks were held scoreless for the first 39 minutes before Alexis Hernandez (So., Weston, Fla.) broke the game open when she scored off a pass from NSU all-time points leader Shurell Burton (Sr., Palm Bay, Fla.) for a 1-0 lead.
Heather Swift (Sr., Titusville, Fla.) addded the exclamation point to the match for NSU when she connected on a header off a corner kick from Lindsay Nowland (Fr., Cape Coral, Fla.) to make it 2-0.
Eckerd goalkeeper Cory Hawkins was able to keep the game close for the Tritons, making 13 saves in the losing effort.
Goalkeepers Sarah Glass (Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) and Megan Kim (Jr., Valrico, Fla.) combined on the shutout for the Sharks.
NSU will host Palm Beach Atlantic University in their home opener on Friday, September 12th at 6 pm at the NSU Soccer Complex.
