Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (September 12, 2008) - The Nova Southeastern University women;s soccer team thrashed Palm Beach Atlantic 7-1 in action at the NSU Soccer Complex on Friday evening. The victory improves the Sharks record to 3-0-1 on the season while Palm Beach Atlantic falls to 2-2-0.
Palm Beach Atlantic took the early lead, scoring in the 11th minute when Angie Kuhn scored off a cross from Lindsey Bates from the left-side of the 18 yard box.
Shurell Burton (Sr., Palm Bay, Fla.) knotted the score at one apiece in the 26th minute, scoring off an assist from Heather Swift (Sr., Titusville, Fla.).
Just three minutes later Swift would put the Sharks in the lead, scoring on a header off a cross from Fiorella Booth (So., Miami, Fla.).
Stephanie Quinones (Sr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) would finish the scoring in the first half on an unassisted goal off of a free kick from 25 yards out.
Alexis Hernandez (So., Weston, Fla.) took control of the second half of play, scoring three goals to record her first collegiate hat trick. Her first goal would come in the 47th minute off a pass from Quinones. Her second goal was in the 61st minute, an unassisted strike from 35 yards out. Hernandez would finish her scoring in the 73rd minute off of Swift's second assist of the night.
NSUs final goal was an own goal by Palm Beach Atlantic, as one of their defenders header went in the wrong direction and ended up in their own goal.
The Sharks out-shot PBA 21-8 and had two more corner kicks than the Sailfish.
NSU remains home to host Lynn University in their Sunshine State Conference opener on Sunday, September 14th at 6pm at the NSU Soccer Complex.
